How to Fold Cloth Diapers
There are several ways to fold a cloth diaper. There is no wrong way to
fold a diaper. If your baby is comfortable and you are comfortable, i.e. not
getting leaked on, then you are successful. Check out Dy-Dee's
Folding for some illustrations and instructions. My favorite
folds are the Bikini
Twist and the Angel Wing
.
The Bikini Twist
is a quick fast way to cloth diaper a baby. You can lay the cover down
first, then put the cloth diaper on top. The diaper may complete cover the
diaper cover. Don't worry. Place the baby on the diaper.
The baby's weight will hold the back of the diaper as you grab the front and
twist it up between the baby's legs. Then, you can fold down the front of
the cloth diaper to fit inside the diaper cover. ( I will add pictures
soon)
My other favorite is sometimes called the newspaper fold or Angel Wing
. It is also worth looking the illustrations for In
Diaper covers as well. I have modified this basic cloth diaper fold to create
the Cuff fold.
Cuff Fold by Baby's Abode.
This Baby's Abode Cuff Fold
allows you to prep the cloth diaper ahead of time. The extra tuck keeps the
cloth diaper in the desired fold until it is needed. I found it saved me a
lot of
time during a change. This was particularly helpful when my sons
reached the wiggly 8mos mark. It took some of the battle out of the diaper
change because the diaper was ready to go

Fold the
cloth diaper up about 2 inches.
Just enough so that the length of the
diaper is the same length as the cover.

Then, I turn it over. So the
folded part is under the cloth diaper.
Then, fold the left side of the diaper in about a
third. |
 |
Then fold the right side of the cloth diaper in about a
third.
At this point it looks a lot like the original newspaper fold.
However, the fold to shorten the diaper, is on the outside
creating a cuff.

I use this cuff to tuck the ends of the
diaper into each
other. The extra tuck keeps the diaper folded until they are needed.
VERY HANDY!
I fold the cloth diapers up the night before and lay them on the changing
table. When it's time to change, I can pick up the diaper by
the tucked cuff and lay it on the diaper cover. I allow the
corners under baby to spread to wrap around his waist like the Angel
Fold. Then fasten
the diaper with a snappi or pins. If you are using a fitted cover,
no need to fasten.
That extra tuck keeps the cloth diaper folded until they are needed.
Quite a time saver! |
